Solar Net Metering

Generate clean sustainable energy using rooftop solar while exporting surplus power to the grid in exchange for energy credits. Save up to 90% off your electricity bill.*

What is Solar Net Metering?

Stop paying electricity bills. Net Metering is a mechanism that allows commercial and industrial rate payers to generate their own clean electricity by using Photovoltaic Solar (“PV”) from their rooftop.

Here’s how it works. Your utility will subtract the value of electricity you supply to the grid from the value of what you take from the grid. What you’ll see on your bill is the “net” difference between those 2 amounts. Surplus to the grid results in credits to be applied when production is lower.

Why Net Metering?

In the Ontario Energy Market, commercial and industrial Class B rate payers pay between $0.14 and $0.16 /kWh, all in. This rate will continue to increase beyond the rate of inflation. Industry experts predict, conservatively, a rate increase of 4-5% annually with a risk of higher upticks. Net Metering is an effective price hedge against the rising cost of electricity and is the most beneficial mechanism to combat rate escalation while enhancing profitability. At the same time Net Metering aligns perfectly with Environmental, Social, and Governance (“ESG”) reporting.

Why Net Metering now?

  • Increase the valuation of your business.

  • Improve profitability.

  • Rooftop solar installations provide savings in year one with a useful life beyond 25 years.

  • Increase your normalized EBITDA.

Lock in energy costs. Install a solar net metering system.

The electricity produced by a solar net metering system can displace up to 100% of your electrical demand, providing you with a predictable and affordable energy rate for the next 25+ years.

Stop sky-high electricity rates from attacking your bottom line!

Electricity rates have spiraled out of control in the last decade. Many industrial consumers are now paying over 30¢ per kilowatt-hour. These rates are the highest in all of Canada!

Does solar net metering work if I don’t own my building?

There are benefits to both the tenant and landlord.

ESG goals are a growing priority, rooftop solar is both an underutilized asset and a positive ESG strategy.

  • Vacancy risk, tenants are demanding sustainable solutions, aligning with their ESG goals.

  • If the tenant wants to own the PV asset to generate savings, we can point you in the right direction and can assist in negotiating a lease agreement with the landlord where the savings are shared by both parties.

  • If the Landlord wants to own the PV asset, we can assist in negotiating an agreement where the landlord generates revenue by selling clean power to the tenant.

  • All parties share in the economic savings, the ESG benefits, and doing what is right for the planet.
